Research Interests
I conduct research to gain a better understanding of the importance of microbial diversity to soil ecosystem functions. Specifically, I am interested in the response of soil microbial structural and functional diversity to environmental perturbations and changes in land use management. Some of my recent projects include monitoring
the recovery of soil microorganisms following forest fires and characterizing microbial communities in dryland agroecosystems and in rangeland soils amended with biosolids. |
Teaching Responsibilities
I teach courses in soil microbiology, soil ecology and environmental soil science. My specific classes are:
- SOCR 341 Soil Ecology (every odd-year spring semester; 1 credit)
- SOCR 455 Soil Microbiology (fall semesters; 3 credits)
- SOCR 456 Soil Microbiology Laboratory (fall semesters; 1 credit)
- SOCR 478 Environmental Soil Science (spring semesters; 3 credits; co-taught with Dr. Greg Butters)
- SOCR 755 Advanced Soil Microbiology (every odd-year spring semester, 3 credits)
|
Because I will be on sabbatical leave Spring 2009, SOCR 341 will be taught in Fall 2008, and SOCR 755 will be taught in Spring 2010.
