Research Interests
My research interests focus on organic and sustainable fruit and vegetable production in western Colorado and research on native
plant seed production for rehabilitation and revegetation of public lands. Recently completed projects have centered on organic
weed control methods in fruit trees and vegetables and organic fertility for fruit production.

Current Research Projects
Native Seed Production for Crop Diversification. This cooperative project between CSU and the Uncompahgre Plateau Project has a research component with 7 acres of native grasses, forbs and shrubs at Rogers Mesa and a grower component with 5 acres of native grasses, one acre each at five farms around the Uncompahgre Valley. The goal is to assist growers to learn to produce native seed for revegetation of the Uncompahgre Plateau in western Colorado. This project is funded by WSARE and the Uncompahgre Plateau Project. Irrigation Efficiency: Research and Demonstration Project. This is a cooperative project between CSU, the Delta Soil and Water Conservation District and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. This project examines water use efficiency, alfalfa production and quality, with and without compost additions, under drip, sprinkler and furrow irrigation. The goal of the project to determine the most economically beneficial and water efficient production scenario while reducing or eliminating water runoff and deep percolation that contributes to increased salinity in area rivers.
